The RFL has imposed a permanent ban from all Rugby League activity on a Hull man who struck a junior player in a match last year writes John Ledger.

A RFL Operational Tribunal handed down the ban after hearing that Peter Mortimer, a spectator at a match between East Hull and Myton on March 29, 2009, ran onto the pitch and became involved in a fight between players.

Mr Mortimer struck a 14-year-old player and was subsequently given a caution by Humberside Police.

The incident was captured on DVD and referred to the Operational Rules Tribunal in accordance with the RFL’s Safeguarding Policy.

After watching the DVD and reading the statements obtained from witnesses and league officials, Tribunal Chairman Jim Spencer announced that people who behave in the way Mr Mortimer did have no place in Rugby League.
