Lions’ 12 succumb
BRANSHOLME DALES ground out a 20-14 victory over WEST HULL LIONS in the HULL ARL’S BASSETT CUP FINAL.
Wests were 14-10 ahead with six minutes left, thanks to tries by Luke Birnie and Liam East, plus three Pete Grayburn goals.
But the dismissal of Glen Ellerby in the 29th minute inevitably proved costly. The Dales, previously limited to a try by Mike Beecher in the first half, and Beecher’s second on the hour, levelled when Anthony Rhodes crossed in the 74th minute. And victory was sealed when Pete Samsan squeezed in at the corner in the closing seconds. Craig Skelton, who had converted the opening touchdown, added the extras from the touchline.
